Normally, your warrant/appointment lasts for 5 years before renewal. In the very near future, when you go for renewal, you will be asked to produce proof that you have done a refresher in Safeguarding ( child protection ) in the last five years. This will be required every time you have a new appointment or warrant. Feb. 2010. Those that haven't done the "Keeping Children Safe" three part course could use the online course as the first refresher. Block bookings will be available to GSLs DCs and CCs.

The three parts can be then done on the internet, pass mark 70%. If you pass, you will be able to download the certificate. Cost £4-70p. You can still do the paper one, cost about £15 to £16.

A newer abuse now taking over as the most prolific one is, Cyber Bullying. Mobile phones and computers.
Be careful when you send out emails to youngsters, the email could be misinterpreted by parents. Send copy to your GSL.
Blank copy emails when you send out to a number of youngsters at the same time. You then won't give out others email addresses.
Be careful on camp. Many youngsters take mobile phones with them. Lots of mobile phones have camera facilities and could be used when youngsters are taking a shower or changing clothes. It's all too easy to send a picture with a caption.
